The final day of an eight day hike on the Overland Track, the last 10 kilometres of the track departs Echo Point to skirt the edge of Lake St Clair as it heads towards Cynthia Bay. Passing through impressive rainforest before transitioning to Eucalypt woodlands, the track ends at the Lake St Clair Visitor Centre and the Overland Track's southern trailhead. The nearby Pumphouse Point offers a luxurious end to a great hike.
Day seven of an eight day hike on the Overland Track, the journey to Narcissus hut takes walkers back to the Overland Track and to the ferry most hikers take to finish their Overland adventure. Continuing on along Lake St Clair from Narcissus through lush rainforest, the charming hut at Echo Point and the beautiful beach nearby served as a lovely final night for those looking to complete the full Overland Track.
Day six of an eight day hike on the Overland Track, the overnight side trip option to Pine Valley extends the Overland Track adventure by taking walkers into the Du Cane Range. Heading through some of the finest rainforest scenery to Pine Valley hut, a further side trip along the Labyrinth trail leads to one of the most impressive and beautiful vistas of the entire hike. Definitely worth the detour.
Day five of an eight day hike on the Overland Track, the journey from Kia Ora to Bert Nichols is highlighted by a visit to the historic Du Cane hut and numerous side trips to spectacular waterfalls along the Mersey River. After the final ascent of the main Overland Track to Du Cane Gap, the day finishes at Bert Nichols hut - a massive and thoroughly modern hut that even contains public art!
Day four of an eight day hike on the Overland Track, New Pelion to Kia Ora is arguably one of the track's most spectacular days. Rising continuously for the first half of the day to the junction at Pelion Gap, a side trip takes hikers to the summit of Mt Ossa - the tallest mountain in Tasmania. A rocky ascent through beautiful alpine environments, the incredible 360° views are one of the highlights of the entire track.
Day three of an eight day hike on the Overland Track, the journey from Windermere to New Pelion takes walkers to the track's lowest elevation level, as well as the first long sections of Myrtle Beech rainforest. Although muddy and tangled in roots, this will be favourite day for fans of forest walking, with the view of Mt Oakleigh from New Pelion Hut being the finest verandah view of the entire track.
Day two of an eight day hike on the Overland Track, this short day explores the lakes between Waterfall Valley and Windermere Hut. A side trip to Lake Will provides an excellent view of Barn Bluff, while Lake Windermere provides walkers with an opportunity for a chilly swim. An easy day of walking, Waterfall Valley to Windermere allows for relaxation after the more demanding first day .
The first day of an eight day hike on the Overland Track, this first section of the track leads walkers from the Ronny Creek trailhead to Waterfall Valley. Often considered the hardest day of the track, this spectacular day of walking is dominated by beautiful glacier-carved landscapes, with Crater Lake and Cradle Mountain being the highlights - the latter of which can be summited via an optional side trail.
Regarded by many as one of the most spectacular day walks in Victoria, Stapylton Amphitheatre follows a challenging unmarked route across the ridge between Hollow Mountain and Mt Stapylton in Grampians National Park. Featuring exposed scrambling, climbing through a cave, awkward precipitous drops and the infamous Ravine, this beautifully rugged but arduous walk is best undertaken by experienced hikers only.
The second day of an overnight hike on the Bibbulmun Track,this spectacular day of walking takes hikers from West Cape Howe to Cosy Corner via Torbay campsite. Following a high coastal ridge for most of the day, the track focuses strongly on the beauty of West Cape Howe National Park's rugged coastline. With views of numerous beautiful beaches and rocky headlands, this is one of the Bibbulmun's best days.
The first day of an overnight hike on the Bibbulmun Track, this double hut section of the track takes walkers from Eden Rd to West Cape Howe. Initially running along the Wilson Inlet, the track heads to Nullaki campsite before heading through heathlands that offers glimpses of the Southern Ocean and longer sections looking inland. A largely uneventful day, walkers are at least rewarded with lovely views from the West Cape Howe campsite.
A surprisingly good trail near Albany, The Point Possession Heritage Trail leads walkers to the northernmost point of the Vancouver Peninsula. Passing through heathlands, the trail features two short beach walks and features the historica Point Possession where Captain Vancouver claimed the west coast of Australia for Britain. With interesting granite headlands and lovely beaches, this is an easier alternative to the Bald Head Trail.
A short but enjoyable walk in Porongurup National Park, the Devil's Slide Trail takes walkers up to the summit of Marmabup Rock. Featuring impressive granite formations, the trail is dominated by incredible views across the Porongurup Range. An enjoyable standalone walk in its own right, the Devil's Slide Trail can also be done as a side trip from the popular Nancy Peak Circuit - creating one of the South West's best walks.
An underrated trail in Wellington National Park, the Jabitj (running water) Trail links Wellington Dam Kiosk with the superb campgrounds at Honeymoon Pool. Utilising a stretch of the old Bibbulmun Track, the trail follows the beautiful Collie River, providing lovely views of rocky rapids, moss covered granite boulders and lush forest. A surprisingly excellent trail, this is a perfect walk for a weekend away from Perth.
The second day of an overnight hike in Fitzgerald River National Park, the 12.6 km return walk of the Mamang Trail follows a shorter, alternate route. Initially follow the main trail to Point Charles Junction, the alternate route takes walkers via a series of sand dunes before a long beach walk down Point Charles and St Mary Beaches. Featuring jagged rock formations and pristine beaches, this shortcut is an excellent alternative.

The first day of an overnight hike in Fitzgerald River National Park, the 15.4 kilometre traverse of the Mamang Trail takes walkers from Point Ann to the banks of the Fitzgerald Inlet. Starting as a beach walk, the trail heads inland through biodiverse heath, with stunning views of lakes, pristine beaches, inlets and the central wilderness peaks. A relatively easy wilderness walk, this is a superb trail in one of the state's best parks.

A short but adventurous trail, the Z Bend River Trail takes walkers down into the Z Bend of the Murchison River Gorge. After viewing the sheer cliffs of the Z Bend from a lookout, the trail descends through a side gorge, following a route over boulders, ladder climbs and narrow chasms to reach the river itself. With its beautifully rugged terrain, the Z Bend River Trail is a great primer for the multi-day River Gorge Hike.
One of Trails WA's Top Trails, the Loop Walk follows a natural loop in the Murchison River near the iconic Nature's Window. Initially walking along the cliff top, the trail descends for a rugged and adventurous section along narrow ledges through the gorge before easing off along a sandy stretch back up to Nature's Window. A stunning walk in one of Western Australia's best national parks, this is a must do experience in the Mid-West.
A spectacular trail in Porongurup National Park, the Nancy Peak Circuit takes walkers across several granite peaks. Leading to its high point at Nancy Peak, the trail is dominated by incredible views across the Porongurup Range, especially the neighbouring Devil's Slide. Running along a well thought out route, this rewarding trail is one of the best walks in the South West, and a very deserving Top Trail.
Known as the 'wildflower mountain', the trail to Mt Trio's peak is one of the best places to see wildflowers in the Stirling Range. Initially ascending steeply through beautiful flowering heath to the mountain's saddle, the trail evens out for a gentle finish towards to summit. Featuring an abundance of Mountain Bells, Banksias and Grass Trees and excellent views, this is a must do for those with an interest in botany.
Arguably Western Australia's most well known and popular bushwalk, the Bluff Knoll trail takes walkers up the highest peak of the Stirling Range. Following a well maintained, tourist friendly trail, the ascent is nevertheless steep and continuously uphill. For their efforts, walkers are rewarded with 360° views from the summit, including a spectacular view of the Eastern Peaks that make up the Stirling Ridge Walk.
Long considered one of Western Australia's Top Trails, the Woylie Walk takes walkers through the Dryandra Woodlands - an important reserve that preserves the original vegetation of the Wheatbelt that will soon gain National Park status. An easy stroll, this short trail passes through many different forest types over its 5.5 kilometres and features a lovely abundance of wildflowers in the Springtime.
The other, lesser known walk trail in Serpentine National Park, Baldwin's Bluff's walk trail leads walkers along vehicle tracks to the summit of a nearby hill. Dominated by Wandoo Woodlands and Granite outcrops, the trail is particularly lovely in early Spring, with wildflowers in bloom and spectacular views of Serpentine Falls and the valley beyond. Worth checking out for the view alone.
The final day of an eight day hike on the Bibbulmun Track, Beedelup to Pemberton is a long but relatively easy day of walking. Departing Beedelup National Park and passing through farmland, the track follows old rail formations to Big Brook Arboretum and Dam before following the Lefroy Brook to town. Walked on a day of wildly varied weather from sunshine to hail, this was an unforgettable end to our Balingup to Pemberton adventure.
Day seven of an eight day hike on the Bibbulmun Track, Beavis to Beedelup proved to be the most challenging day of our hike. Departing the Donnelly River, the Track passes through dull regrowth forest in unnecessarily hilly terrain, before improving as it reaches Carey Brook Falls. After some pleasant enough forest walking, the day ends strongly with the spectacular Beedelup Falls and the campsite along Beedelup Brook itself.
Day six of an eight day hike on the Bibbulmun Track, Boarding House to Beavis is infamous due to being considered the Track's hardest day. Filled with so many ascents and descents that it is known as the 'Donnelly River Rollercoaster', the day's highlight is a steep plunge from one side of the valley and an immediate climb up the other. With many fallen trees as further obstacles, this is challenging but rewarding day of walking.
Day five of an eight day hike on the Bibbulmun Track, the track follows the Donnelly River from Tom Road to Boarding House. This section offers walkers spectacular views of the Donnelly River itself, including an impressive series of rapids later in the day. Passing by the historic One Tree Bridge, the Bibbulmun Track's official halfway point and crossing two iconic bridges, this is one of the track's best days.
Day four of an eight day hike on the Bibbulmun Track, the walk from Donnelly River Village to Tom Road is one of the easier days between Balingup and Pemberton - and one of the prettiest. After leaving the kangaroos and emus of Donnelly River Village behind, walkers pass through lush Karri forests and along the Donnelly River itself before reaching Tom Road - one of the Bibbulmun's best and most stunning campsites.
Day three of an eight day hike on the Bibbulmun Track, Gregory Brook to Donnelly River Village is a day of transition, with walkers entering the first sections of lush, dense forest dominated by Karri. Following several rail formations and crossing old wooden bridges, the day features some spectacular forest walking before leading to Donnelly River Village - a magical place that is home to tame kangaroos and emus.
Day two of an eight day hike on the Bibbulmun Track, the walk from Blackwood to Gregory Brook can be divided into two segments - the first following the Blackwood River, with the second along a railway formation through transitional Jarrah forests. Featuring the steep descent of Cardiac Hill, a climb to Millstream Dam and the first Karris of the Track, the idyllic campsite along the Gregory Brook provides a lovely end to the day's walking.

Initially passing through the Golden Valley Tree Park, the trail takes walkers into Jarrah forest shared with the Greenbushes Loop before heading through farmland to Blackwood - its once mighty valley views marred by the desolation caused by fires in 2013. A pleasant and varied day of walking.

A long, flat day walk on the Bibbulmun Track, this double hut section of the track takes walkers from Powerline Rd after Mt Cooke through to the Albany Hwy crossing at North Bannister via Nerang and Gringer Creek huts. Lacking elevation change and views, the dullness of the section is made worse by the fact it is recovering from the effects of an out of control controlled burn. Definitely one of the lesser stretches of the Track.
The second day of an overnight hike on the Bibbulmun Track, this 21.3 km double hut section of the track takes walkers from Waalegh to the Perth Hills Discovery Centre via Helena and Ball Creek. Though continuously hilly, walkers are rewarded by some of the most spectacular valley views in the Darling Scarp section of the track. With beautiful Granite formations, creeks and a small waterfall, this is one of the Bibbulmun's best.
The first day of an overnight hike on the Bibbulmun Track, this 17.9 km double hut section of the track takes walkers from Dale Rd to Waalegh campsite via Beraking. After starting in Jarrah and Wandoo forests and passing a Pine plantation on the way to Beraking, the views become increasingly stunning. With expansive views across the Helena Valley, Waalegh is one of the track's most spectacular campsites - a great reward for the day's walking.
One of the Wheatbelt's Top Trails and a short 30 minute drive from New Norcia, the Mt Matilda Trail loops across a flat topped mesa. A botanical island in a sea of farmland, the trail takes walkers through numerous micro-environments that show off the incredible biodiversity of the region's original vegetation. With plentiful stands of rare Eucalypt species and wildflower blooms, Mt Matilda is a good Springtime day trip from Perth
One of Perth's best dog friendly walks, the Bells Rapids Walk Trail takes walkers alongside a series of iconic rapids famed for being part of the Avon Descent. A 5.5 kilometre loop, the trail follows the river downstream before ascending up the valley slopes to provide sweeping view of the river below. Featuring views of interesting granite formations and even a waterfall, this is an ideal walk to undertake with four legged friends
A very short but excellent walk in the Pinnacles Desert, the Desert View Trail takes walkers through one of Western Australia's most iconic and unusual landscapes. Looping through the numerous limestone formations of the Pinnacles, the walk's gentle gradient offers walkers a more immersive perspective than the Pinnacles Drive. A convenient day trip from Perth, this walk is suitable for most levels of experience .
Combining the Lesueur and Gardner Trails, this walk is a botanical tour of Leseuer National Park - one of the greatest wildflower parks in Australia. Heading through Kwongan heathland up the short Mt Lesueur along the Lesueur Trail before looping around the Gardner Trail's circuit, this walk is filled with a brilliant display of wildflowers at every turn. A gift of WA's brilliant biodiversity, this is a must do during wildflower season.
One of Western Australia's most spectacular coastal walks, the Bigurda Trail takes walkers along an 8 km stretch of coastal cliffs in Kalbarri National Park. Linking Eagle Gorge to the Natural Bridge, this moderately easy trail features incredible views of the region's rugged, banded cliffs juxtaposed by wildflowers in a myriad of colours. A fairly unique experience, this is an essential walk of Australia's Coral Coast.

A short but surprisingly adventurous walk in Kalbarri National Park, the Mushroom Rock Nature Trail provides an up close look at the Kalbarri coast. Descending to a small, rocky gorge, the trail takes walkers to Mushroom Rock and the crashing waves of the Indian Ocean, before looping around past banded cliffs and other unusual formations. A perfect trail for those with an interest in geological history.
A sectional day walk on the Bibbulmun Track, this 18.4 km trek leads walkers from Harris Dam's beautiful picnic area, through Jarrah forest and into the historic town of Collie via a spur trail. With a generally easy gradient over its entire length and the chance of seeing wildflowers from late Winter through to Spring, this is a pleasant if not exactly spectacular section of the Bibbulmun Track.
A short walk in Leeuwin-Naturaliste National Park, this trail leads walkers from Moses Rock to the beautiful but relatively obscure Quininup Falls. The trail largely follows the Cape to Cape Track along coastal cliffs and heathland, before heading inland along an ad hoc track to the impressive falls. Largely dry over the summer tourist season, Quininup Falls is one of the spectacular rewards of winter in the Margaret River Region.
A tough but rewarding walk in Kalamunda National Park, the Piesse Gully Loop is the longer version of the Rocky Pool Walk Trail. Following rugged, uneven tracks up steep inclines, the trail takes walkers up and down valley slopes and past large granite formations before reaching the idyllic Rocky Pool along Piesse Brook. A must do for seasoned hikers, this is an ideal training walk for those looking to tackle challenging terrain.
A pleasant and relatively easy walk, the 3.5 kilometre Noble Falls Walk Trail takes walkers along Wooroloo Brook in Gidegannup. Starting and ending at the beautiful Noble Falls, the trail features gentle gradients as it passes through bushland and near semi-rural properties, with the brook a constant companion. Given its short length, easy terrain and dog-friendly nature, this a good walk for families and beginner hikers.
A short but consistently excellent trail in Mundy Regional Park, this walk follows Whistlepipe Gully in the Perth Hills. Along it 3.5 kilometre length, the trail follows the gully as it courses over cascades and small waterfalls, memorably passing through the ruins of a house built right on the gully's edge. A miniature, dog-friendly version of Serpentine's Kitty's Gorge, this is one of Perth's best shorter trails.
One of several walks in Banyowla Regional Park, this 2km trail takes walkers around Ellis Brook Reserve to the top of Sixty Foot Falls before looping back - with an optional spur leading to a wild, adventurous route to the foot of the falls. With Old Barrington Quarry, valley views, wildflowers and the falls as trail highlights, this is an excellent short walk that is at its best after significant winter rains.
An extremely popular walk in the Perth Hills, this very short trail leads walkers to Lesmurdie Falls - easily the most magnificent waterfall in Perth. The relatively easy walk from the top of the falls to its foot is a pleasant stroll, with excellent views of the city and the national park's relatively lush surrounds. Crowded with tourists and locals alike, the spectacle of the falls makes up for the somewhat noisy atmosphere.
A much loved Perth bushwalking classic, the Eagle View Walk Trail has long been considered one of the WA's Top Trails. Located in John Forrest National Park, this popular loop walk takes walkers to some of the less visited sections within the park, including the lovely Christmas Tree Creek. With the trail's valley views bookended by the stunning Hovea and National Park Falls, this is a particularly spectacular winter walk.
One of the finest day walks in the Southern Forests, the Warren River Loop Walk takes walkers to many of Warren National Park's best features. Starting at the Dave Evans Bicentennial Tree - the tallest lookout tree in the world - the trail heads through pleasant Karri forest, along the lovely Warren River before ascending to the Warren River Lookout on the way back to the Bicentennial Tree.
Located in the relatively obscure Boorara-Gardner National Park, this return walk leads to the stunning Lane Poole Falls - the park's crown jewel, and one of the most highly regarded in the South West. Starting at the decommissioned Boorara Tree lookout, the trail passes through Karri and Marri forest recovering from the 2015 Northcliffe Fires, before descending steeply to the falls along the Canterbury River.
