Munda Biddi Trail (WA) - Mundaring to Carinyah


The first town to hut day of the Munda Biddi Trail, this section takes cyclists from the Northern Trailhead at the Mundaring Sculpture Park to Carinyah campsite. Descending to Mundaring Weir Hotel, the trail explores the Helena Valley before heading uphill to the Dell. Exploring a mix of stunning Jarrah forest and hills orchard country, the trail ends at the trails first campsite at Carinyah. An at time challenging but enjoyable first day

Helena Pipehead Walk (Kalamunda NP)



An enjoyable walk in Kalamunda National Park, the Helena Pipehead Walk explores the a section of the Helena River downstream of Mundaring Weir. Heading along old vehicle tracks, the trail follows the river to so excellent vantage points while also passing the Pipehead Dam. Heading to the Piesse Brook valley, the trail loops back through more pleasant forest. One of the better Shire of Kalamunda walks

Early Bibbulmun Adventures 2003-2004 (Throwback Thursday Special)


A Throwback Thursday Special, this post recounts the early Bibbulmun Track Adventures and Hiking Origin Story of The Long Way's Better, starting with the first sectional hike in late 2003 (Walpole to Denmark) and the second from Brookton Hwy to Kalamunda - which in turn revealed an interesting mistake in this finally complete Origin Story

Bibbulmun Track (WA) - Waalegh to Perth Hills Discovery Centre


The second day of an overnight hike on the Bibbulmun Track, this 21.3 km double hut section of the track takes walkers from Waalegh to the Perth Hills Discovery Centre via Helena and Ball Creek. Though continuously hilly, walkers are rewarded by some of the most spectacular valley views in the Darling Scarp section of the track. With beautiful Granite formations, creeks and a small waterfall, this is one of the Bibbulmun's best.

Bibbulmun Track (WA) - Dale Rd to Waalegh


The first day of an overnight hike on the Bibbulmun Track, this 17.9 km double hut section of the track takes walkers from Dale Rd to Waalegh campsite via Beraking. After starting in Jarrah and Wandoo forests and passing a Pine plantation on the way to Beraking, the views become increasingly stunning. With expansive views across the Helena Valley, Waalegh is one of the track's most spectacular campsites - a great reward for the day's walking.
